Our Conservation Principles

Carli Fine Art Conservation's priority is the preservation of  art and artifacts. 

We advocate preventive conservation - the management of the conditions under which art is housed and displayed. Damage and deterioration can be reduced significantly by controlling their causes.

When repair is necessary, the materials and methods used in treatments are carefully selected to preserve the aesthetic, conceptual and physical characteristics of the work of art. The future effects of the conservation materials used in treatment are carefully considered with priority given to minimum intervention and maximum reversibility. CFAC uses the most appropriate conservation techniques possible that respect the artist's original intent, materials and construction.

We firmly adhere to the ethical codes and accountability standards outlined in the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice established by the American Institute for Conservation to ensure the best stewardship for artwork in our care.
